Private vs. Public Blogging

As you get ready to set up your blog, there are several questions that you need to answer. Chances are you already know what you want to write about. You probably already know what the purpose of the blog will be. However, have you thought about whether you will limit the number of people who have access to your blog? Today you can create a blog that no one will see, only people who you give access to will see, or everyone in the entire world will see. The choice is up to you.

Private

If you don’t want anyone else to see what you write, create a private blog. Most websites give you access to this decision. Write as much as you want, when you want, and don’t worry about anyone else being able to see it. Use the blog like a diary and respond to the world in any way you see fit without worry of judgment or consequence.

Semi-Private

If you have a lot to say and you want to allow friends to read along, create a semi-private blog. Password protect the blog and give out that secret word to a select number of people. This creates a community of readers that you trust and gives you some comfort in knowing just who is turning on the computer and checking out your blog. You can add more privacy to the blog by turning off the ability of readers to comment on posts.

Public

If you have a lot to say and don’t care who reads it, make your blog open to everyone! Readers from around the world will read your thoughts and (if you want them to be able to) respond to what you have written. This is a great way to make new friends and even find new blogs to read.
